Draft League Basketball Rules
1. Games will be two 20-minute running halves with a 3-minute halftime. The clock will start running at the scheduled starting time so be ready to play. If a team has less than 4 players present, a ten-minute grace period will be given in the starting time before a forfeit is called. The supervisor’s time will be official.
2. Overtime will be 2 minutes running time.
3. Two time-outs per team per half. An additional time-out will be given for each overtime period.
4. Call your own fouls. Don’t be too shy! Call out fouls immediately. Baskets made when a foul is called will be counted as if a foul never happened. The ball is checked in at the top of the key on a defensive foul, and in bounded from the sideline on an offensive foul with international rules in effect. The ball must always be passed into play following a foul or violation.
5. A team may start the game with a minimum of 4 players. However, the opposing team is under no obligation to do the same.
6. Pinneys will be provided for the women on the “skins” team. The home team on the score sheet will have the option of going shirts or skins. Captains may also get together before the game and decide to have their teams wear a certain color of shirt.
7. A jump ball will start the game with alternating possession for the rest of the game.
8. All teams must have at least 1 female player on the court and a maximum of 4 male players. A team may play with 3 male players and 1 female player.
9. Each player is only allowed five fouls. On the fifth foul, the player fouls out of the game. Technical fouls can be given by the gym supervisor for flagrant fouls, swearing, or any unnecessary behavior. Two technical fouls will result in ejection from the game and gym. Fighting will result in the player being out for up to three games.
10. During the last two minutes of the second half, if the point spread is 12 or less, the clock will stop on all fouls and a bonus (1 & 1) will be taken on all non-shooting fouls. On shooting fouls, 2 or 3 shoots will be awarded.
12. More than two forfeits will result in ineligibility from the post-season tournament.
13. Each team must provide a scorekeeper for each of its games and the score sheet must be accurate with points, fouls, and time-outs. In addition, this score sheet must be turned in at the end of every game. If a score sheet is not submitted, the tea mat fault will automatically be given the loss.
