Women's Basketball Trip Blog: Day 6

Members of the Northwestern College women's basketball team are in the midst of a 10-day mission trip in Guatemala and El Salvador.  Follow along as they report each day's activities.

Friday morning we woke up and went once again to Mister Donut for our last breakfast in El Salvador.  We took about a six hour bus ride back to Guatemala City in the van and had some laughs.  The van was a good time for us to relax a little bit but it didn't prove enough when we lost to the Guatemalan national team by about 40 that night :).  The game was very interesting as our legs were very tired from the five straight previous games as well as the cramped bus ride.  It showed in our shooting and made us very frusterated.  Although they did have the Central American MVP, it was still frusterating.  Kelsey and Flip fouled out in beginning of the 3rd quarter, so that left us to play the "boot," Kaelee as our only sub.  We made it through the game however, and Milly shared her testimony with the girls after.  We took some pics and were off to Telmas for dinner, showers, and bed!

Saturday we woke up, had a delicious breakfast at Telma's, ran a clinic from 9 to 11:30 outside (very hot!).  Most of us got sunburned a bit...  We did our skit during the clinic and there was a call to accept Christ and it seemed that a few did!  It was a neat experience and we pray that they will continue to grow in their faith.  Hens also did her testimony very well after the skit.  We went to the local mall for some good ol BK American style and shopped around a bit.  Then we were off to our final game against a local team.  The game wasn't very competitive seeing as Kelsey and Ariel got to play the 4 and 5 spot and were still the tallest girls on the court! :)  It was fun and we got to talk to the women after.  Most were house wives and just played for fun.  Maria shared her testimony with them and we got to pray with the women and fellowship with them for awhile after the game.  It was a good experience and they were really appreciative of us coming and playing them.  After the game and the talking, we went to Emil's (one of our leaders) youth group.  Though we had little idea what was going on or being said, it was still interesting to hang out with some people our age.  And actually we talked to some people after the session who spoke English so it was fine.  We then headed back to Telmas for the regular routine of dinner, shower, and bed! :)

Sunday started off with yet another good breakfast followed by church in skirts!  Our leaders scarcely recognized us without our sweaty jerseys and mopped hair!  The church service, like the youth group the night before, was difficult to understand but we were greeted by many friendly faces.  We received a note from the pastor telling us a bit about what he was preaching on and actually had us stand up and be recongized in the service!  After the service we were off to yet another destination of Santiago.  This was a day of rest for us, so we enjoyed a great lunch followed by an ice cream treat from our great coaches!  We made our way into the jungle on winding roads to find our "hotel."  We played the tourist role and rode on the back of a truck into town and shopped around the local "tiendas" (shops) before having a great supper at our hotel.  We then sat in the hot tub of the hotel for a long time which overlooked the lake and volcanoes!  Beautiful!  We then went back to their huts and went to sleep!
