– Following its first-ever appearance in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament, the Northwestern College women’s tennis team is boasting its first, First and Second Team NCCAA All-Americans.

Kayla Ross (New Hope, Minn./Cooper) becomes Northwestern’s only First Team All-American after a solid senior campaign. Ross, who played all of her matches in NWC’s No. 1 singles position, finished 9-14 (5-3 UMAC) in the regular season while leading the Eagle women’s squad to a 14-8 finish in 2008 and second place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

Junior Wendy Miller (Roseville, Minn./St. Joseph) was also voted as an NCCAA Second Team All-American. Miller, who played all of her matches in the Eagles No. 2 singles position, went 13-8 (6-0 UMAC) this year.

Northwestern went 1-2 in their first appearance in the NCCAA National Tournament in Marion, Ind. The Eagles defeated Bethel College (Ind.) 5-1 before falling to Olivet Nazarene University and Dallas Baptist University 5-0, 5-0. Olivet Nazarene and Dallas Baptist emerged as the top teams to advance from pool play. Indiana Wesleyan University, the tournament host, defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University (Fla.) 5-4 to win their second consecutive championship and the fourth in six years.
