ST. PAUL (May 19, 2008) – After playing their last games in a Northwestern College jersey, seniors Lee Nelson, Brian Johnson and Sam Overlien were recognized on the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference’s (UMAC) All-Conference listing.
Nelson (Evansville, Minn./Brandon-Evansville) was the Eagles’ biggest offensive threat, hitting four home runs and five doubles for a .614 slugging percentage in 19 league affairs this season to earn First Team All-Conference honors. The first baseman hit .343 throughout the entire season, earning him National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) First Team All-Region accolades as well.
Johnson (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) maintained a 4.55 ERA in five UMAC appearances, earning him an All-Conference Honorable Mention award. In addition to his two complete games, Johnson saw 27 and two-thirds innings of action, striking out a team-high 33 batters.
Joining Johnson on the Honorable Mention list was fellow hurler Sam Overlien (Baraboo, Wis./Royal), who pitched 28 and two-thirds innings as Northwestern’s ace. Overlien started five conference games, striking out 23 batters.
Northwestern went 8-11 in UMAC play in 2008, finishing in sixth place in the conference standings.
